I love those 2 strokes (when they run right), but a built 4 stroke like you have in your machine, Whipper, is a blast and it sounds great. I think we need George to comment here too, he has the best of both worlds for his springer, and he can just bolt whatever engine in that he's in the mood for.
I was never a part of the 6x6 crowd in the 70's so it is all new to me. There is something about rebuilding the old stuff and running it again. I have been lucky so far. I have gotten some good engines and have a really large wealth of people that I have met on this site and at the events that has taken what could have been difficult and made it fun. Thanks guys!

Well, I'm on a budget. You can get more hp/$1 with a 2-stroke than a 4-stroke. The Chaparral, on average, costs me about $5 per horse...the Bandolero costs $34.50 per horse. The Chaparral is much cheaper (and faster) to race with but would not be nearly as fun to drive after the race season ends.

Maybe I'm just thinking too much.

If we have a hare scramble this fall though, I'll be running the Bandolero and ready for any water obstacle.

That seems like an; OOOH, There Will Be a hare scramble again.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Not to Beat a dead horse But if you was starting from Scratch (nothing but a frame & body) what would you go for as far as engine ? This is for D stock class.
    A snowmobile engine ( Yamaha 440 ) or relative or a Bandelaro 4 stroke ?
Or any other 4 stroke motor ??
Found older sleds cheap in my area but don't have a lot of Funds to through away in the Wrong places !

If it was me I would go with a 503 Rotax with single carb. The 484 chapperal is good too if you can find one. Both are 2 stroke. You would have to stick a lot of money in a 4 stroke to be competitive, but they sound so cool!

    Just to clarify,
The D stock class is fan cooled 2 stroke with a single carb.. The Bandalero would run in the 4 stroke class, there is currently one other Bandalero (egoperf) in that class and other less powerful 4 strokes.

I already looked at the D stock class and that's why I was asking your all opinions. I like the Yamaha 440,s as I would thing parts are easy to get. Also there are some older sleds close to me at a good price.
Where or what did the Rotex 503 come in ?
