Hmmm yes water crossing is a must for my purpose, have to give this some thought, would have liked the tougher machine than the Avenger for pulling a snow trail groomer.
I started six wheelin when Moby Dick was a minnow, what I lack in talent I make up for with more tires

when i was talkin to the fellow that owns this Centaur he said that Argo has lost their amphibious status on the Centaur because of too many sinkings carrying even a small load, i think they are probably pretty heavy for the displacement of the tub concidering the steel cab and top frame, maybe if one went to the trouble of replacing the steel cab with an all aluminum cab maybe they would be truely amphibious again

A Mans level of mechanical education directly corresponds to the level pain suffered while getting it

Correct, the Centaur is not an amphib.

A word of caution on a Centaur though.. Make sure you aren't getting something that was owned by an oil and gas or utility company that has been bagged.. Quite a few companies use them but they don't realize the extra maintenance that goes along with some pieces of equipment.. One company down here was going to sell their old one for $10K (I think).. They had to send it back to Argo for repairs as it was leaking diesel and they couldn't figure out why.. When they had a mechanic look at it, they found a drive chain broke and had hit the tank.. They used to do donuts with it in the winter to see if it could...
I heard from the guys that used to run it that it would float like a crowbar, because they added a square tubing storage box to the back of it...

Do your research and make sure it is the right machine for your needs and that the past owner did some up keep on it..

The Centaurs are very, very tough and very reliable machines. They run a 3 cyl DAIHATSU aka ( Briggs and stratton ) Diesel engine with and without a turbo ... you can even get them with a gas engine but I wouldn't suggest getting that. They run #80HD chains and I have never seen one break yet. They are able to pull 10km of hydro line with no problems at all. Anything else you want to know just let me know

I think i have a thread some where that i prove that a 22X11X8 tire makes 130 LBS of floation... times eight i REALLY beleive that you can make a centar float. (16 tires totoal.... i think that they ALMOST float with 8 tires on them but dont drive it into a lake unless your sure)

I cannot tell a lie I was told by an Argo rep that the Centaurs do float stock from the factory but they DO NOT and WILL NOT tell the general public this information only because this machine wasnt designed to float across a river ... i was designed to push it way through swampy areas

The Argo rep told you correct. Here is a video proving that a Centaur 8x8 ------> WILL FLOAT.
