Have you pulled the firewall out to just check that there is nothing physically preventing the shifter from moving? Have you tried rocking the machine back and forth while trying to shift it? Have you tried shifting with the machine off?

My bet its in the shift linkage, you may want to spray some lubricant on the linkage (after removing the firewall as Mike suggested). There are several points on the linkage that could bind. Otherwise the Argo transmission is very bullet proof.

Tried all the basic routines when gears are locked together. There is no linkage - just the shift lever straight into the transmission. Taking it up to dealer today. He says it may be that the shift lever has jumped out of the block but we'll see. thanks for the input. Will let you know. Just bought this 2010 from an older guy who rarely used it and it looks like brand new under the hood. 50 hours on it so hoping it is not major!

Dealer in Beaverton ON is very knowledable - old time common sense mechanic. He backed out the Allen head spring pin part #104-39 which fits against the shifting rod, and it disengaged. As to why it happened - not so sure. Anyway he adjusted the pin and fixed it in place with Locktite as it could have moved and caused the problem. Thanks again to all who weighed in.
