Carlisle Stryker Tires on Avenger

Just to let you know, last weekend I installed 2 Stryker 25x12x9 tires on our Avenger, due to excessive sidewall failure with the Goodyear. The tires while only 1/2" wider, do appear larger in circumference than the stock tire, and I doubt the track will fit over them. I did not do a circumference measurement but will this weekend. The tires performed very well on rock and in mud and offer a much more agressive sidewall for grabbing mud and side channels. The larger tires fits well under the avenger, however there is less of a gap between the next tire (hence why I plan to measure circumference). They are a much more cost effective tires (I paid $89 per tire in Canada vs about $180 for the Goodyear Rawhide III 25x11.5x9.

Man, what a difference in price. Is this the tire: Carlisle Tire & Wheel Company

If so then there is a (supposed) 1.2 inch difference in the advertised diameter. The 25" Goodyears show up as 24.0" diameter on Goodyears site: Goodyear ATV - All Terrain Vehicle Tires: On The Wings Of Goodyear: Find the Right Tire

The Strykers are showing 25.2". It will be interesting to see how they compare to each other in the real world when you measure them.

Couple of questions:

How do you think they will ride compared to the Goodyears?
Also, what kind of sidewall problems were you having with the Goodyears?

Hi Mike, yup that is the tire we have. Since I only have 2 out of 8 on right now, it might not be a great comparison for ride, but we did have a less jarring ride then with all goodyears on it. Our problem with the goodyears, were constant sidewall cuts, which I attribute to the Avenger fitted tire. We previously ran a bigfoot with the 12" wide rawhides, on all the same trails, and rarely came out with a flat. With the 11.5" tire, we always came out with a minimum of 1 tire cut through in the side wall. On one ride, we came out after 4 hours on 2 tires with air, the rest flat. Plus we also noted that the sidewall would puff out after a hard ride, as if they were weaker than the 12" tire. If you can visualize the tire starting from the rim, the first inch looking normal on the rim, and then it would puff out about 2" further than the rim, and then slope back as you got to the top, so that the top of tire was narrower than the middle. Probably hard to visualize with my description, but a tire should expand at the outer edges first but these were not. We thought perhaps we have a bad batch, we took pictures, and got the dealer involved with ODG, but there was no 'fault' found in the tires. That's the way they are and it must be the type of trails we were running. I would buy that if this was out first Argo, but it's out 3rd and on the exact same trails around our cottage.

RS Bolduc told me the tolerance on outside diameter for the rubber track to still fit and I am going to try and track that down.

You will notice the Stryker has some pretty solid lugs along the top sidewall for grabbing on the inside of ruts etc, and physicall look thicker in the sidewall than the GY.
Hope that helps.

That's very strange on those Goodyears. It's a shame that they wouldn't help you out since it was obviously a bad batch. Plus you are a good customer

I think I may have seen someone running those Carlisle tires on another Argo in one of John Schwab's videos. I will have to go back and see. Anyway, thanks for the info and let us know what you find on the tracks and if you go with all 8 tires report back with some comparisons.

Did you pinch the tire on the rim or did something just pucture the sidewall... First i wonder if the pressure is correct. I run 3 lbs on my avenger and have had O problems.

Tried various pressures from 3-5lbs. Most are cuts through the side ways. I found it a much weaker tire than the Bigfoot tire.
