No bro, i think it comes with 2 for a reason. It really wasnt any harder to get the second plate on, and you've already got the master in so it's just a matter of sliding it back to the middle, popping in the middle plate and then pushing it back into place. Shouldn't be too hard.

alright thanks kris, its just that my needle nose pliers would twist a little when holding the chain only making it easy to put one middle link in instead of two but i will fix this now while i have the top off!!

Use 2 nylon zip ties(one on each row) around the master to hold the chain together while you pop the keeper off and slip the 2nd plate in. Easy job. I use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to install and remove the keepers. tap it off, tap it on.

Set the splice up so it ends on the top of a sprocket and it is a bit easier.. At least the few I've done.. Tyraps help.. When I fed the front ones around the sprocket, I used a piece of hay wire and fed that in first and had the new chain tied to it.. Then I made sure the front tire was able to be turned by hand to help line things up.. Let the air out and jack it up if needed...

IMO.. If you want to leave the spacer plates out of a master link, then I'd make sure you pack two things with you when you head out.. A good pair of walking boots and a big lunch for when you break down.. Not IF but when.. You will be creating your own "weak link" (literally) and when it breaks you will have yourself to be mad at..
