Hi, Here is some info on shear pins in regards to an Argo. I think you may be referring to what are called roll pins used on Argos pre 1988. These are rolls of metal shaped the same as if you rolled up your fist looking at your fingers from the top. These rolls pins are 3'' long and 5/16 in diameter, and are used to fasten the sprockets to the axle shaft. These are not to be confused with split pins. These cannot be used. There are two per chain sprocket one on each side. If these break you will lose the connection to your axle and lose the use of that tire and axle. This was a very poor design in older Argos. These pins break very often as an Argo owner you need to carry a number for parts when using the Argo. You will need a 5/16 punch to drive out the broken pins and to drive in a new pin. If you break the pins on the sprocket way up next to the engine you will lose the power to the complete side of the Argo. You will have to replace the pins or walk home. You will have to have a 5/16" punch about a foot or more long for this repair. This is not an easy repair. Some Argo owners have used 5/16 bolts to do the same job as the roll pins. You will have to cut part of the hex head off one side of the bolt for space and don't forget the nut if there is space. The only place to buy these roll pins are from Argo. All the newer Argos now have splinned Axles and sprockets no pins. I hope this info helps. Paul
