I'm sure our springers put less stress on the chain also. On the Maxgo I've cracked half link side plates where they bend. Exactly where you would expect failure. Usually doing mud hole tire jamming antics.

I think we got it licked now with Apache Gear sprockets and axles. Chains fit properly now without the half links.
Although the initial intension of this thread veered, I do not believe half links are a problem if the machines drive line was initially intended/engineered for their use (length of chain). The book does offer them as an option for use, in my opinion until initial stretch has occurred, and to be removed.
My initial response was that though the slider blocks are considerably bigger (and probably should be shortened for proper fitment on a new chain) they should have fit on with a (stretched) 170 hour chain and could possibly bring it back near the original fitment. The adjusters are tricky to always find the true bottom, though it was forgot to be mentioned mud under the cross rod could have kept the slider from hitting bottom as that Busco mud has a tendency to hide in crevices.

Can someone explain how a half link works? Is there a "hole" for the sprocket tooth in a half link? Are the pins closer together in a half link? Thanks.
