I think changing the transmission to a different gear set range is the way to go I know with the older Argos there was 2 or 3 different gear ranges marked on top of the transmission with a letter.
I'd also like to know more about this as its bearing time on my magnum also. please update
I own a 1988 8x8 magnum with the kohler 18hp its a great machine and tough as nails. im up to 680 hours on mine and just thinking about starting a rebuild soon.
1988 and up are splined axle units. at least my 88 magnum is :)
Great episode Jack! Lol bet the price of Argos just went up
I've thought about this too for my 88 magnum 8x8 but think that anything other than the plastic would be really loud and annoying rattling around.
I love my 1988 Magnum 8x8 it serves me very well up in the bush every year hunting for a few weeks at a time. Splined axled heavy chain and a tough kohler M18 makes it hard to beat!
Nope its older than 88 to have the pinned axles as my 88 8x8 magnum is the first year to get the splined ones i beleive.

Just did the pads on my 88 magnum and paid $44 at the local dealer.
I've often thought about mounting up a bike mechanical brake to it and having the lever on the bar.
I have a 1988 Magnum 8x8 in good shape and bought it for $2100 up here in Canada. Love the machine! Have around 650 hours on it and she still fires right up and purrs.
