Got my project running today with one problem.
The stator smokes and the charge wire get extremely hot. The regulator doesn't get hot.
Check and rechecked all of the electrical connections.

My fan is yellow on the hot side, gotta love Argo. :-)
Thank you BTW for checking for me.
Hey guys,
after a long hiatus, I'm getting back to work on my project. The previous owner had hacked and the tapped the wiring harness badly.
I was able to get a NOS Argo harness to replace...
The old harness was a mess. Taps everywhere for accessories. Totally worthless for mapping the replacement harness.
The battery cables were spliced with steel 3/8 cable clamps, then wrapped...
Galvanized.

The confusion made me take a look in the manual to make sure I knew what was what. The old harness didn't have an inline fuse for the brake blower motor, and there should be one as far as I can tell....
A lot of guys with the older argos in Alaska go with ITP mudlites or bear claws. I guess swimming isn't an issue for the areas we deal with. Streams that require swimming without tires touching...
Mine has one in line fuse between the battery and the ignition switch. Even the old hacked up harness has only one inline fuse. That's all the manual shows for my model of 8 I/C too unless I'm...
You know all the trouble you had getting it apart? Cheap out the bearings and chains and you'll be going through that trouble more often than you'd like.
I've heard they aren't swimmers. I've got them on an 8x8 argo (skid steer) that is being restored. Should have it up and running next week.
I'm almost to the point of wiring on my resto. I managed to get a NOS wiring harness for my 8 I/C.
The harness that was on the argo was a butchered rats nest. Marking what went there wouldn't...
Almost went with the 101's thru amazon because of the free shipping, but went with the Kenda Bear Claws thru amazon instead and got free shipping. I'm in Alaska. So not much swimming more peat bogs,...
I bought my 1985 I/C for $1000.
I'll have $1500 in parts in it when the resto / rebuild is done. $600 of that is new tires.
You've got to shop around for parts to get the best price.

Ug, went through the same routine just trying to get some fuel line and fuel filters for my '85 I/C.
Have to look up fuel line by year model and make?
There isn't just a roll of it back there...
Thanks, I'm technology challenged. :)
The one that's in bad shape,is the factory OEM Argo keyed axle. The other one is the factory Argo shear pin that was machined for keyways.
As to whether I'm going to use thebad one or not, I...
Rod, finally got off my arse and posted the pictures of the sprockets in my gallery.
Upon closer inspection, it appears my factory oem sprocket may have walked along the axle shaft a bit side to...
That's basically what I had done. Machined a shear pin sprocket the same width as a keyed sprocket and had the two key ways machined in. I'll get a pic posted up later this morning of the OEM keyed...
