I think I have one in my shed. It is not original Argo but was made for the previous owner of my burned up parts machine a couple years ago. I upgraded to 1"dia. on the two front axles so I could...
What is the deal with "concentric collars"? I did a quick Google but found no layman's description.
... and now for the '80s portion of the tape...

(Caution: Guy in cutoffs)
Found this old tape while cleaning out the basement... I recall bringing it home when I worked there in '81.

Problem solved. Point gap was under spec and one set of points corroded. A little polishing with emery cloth and both plugs spark a glorious bright blue once again :D
Thanks for the followups. I'm slowly starting to comprehend how this stuff works. I ran out of weekend (and enthusiasm) but will take a closer look tomorrow (will chase the wiring)
Found this...
I would imagine both internal coils should look the same. It' looks like one has been replaced. I'll replace the other one. I have a spare motor to pull parts from.

Ah yes... the highs and lows of vintage hobbies. Removing a big engine through that little Argo hole is not fun. If only I didn't have bones in my arms it would be waaay easier! But now it's out and...
Here's a couple resto pics and video of first test. As you will see, the 440-Rotax was idling quite nicely at first. But soon I lost spark to the left cylinder at low R.P.M.'s. The spark returns when...
Just rev it till she blows.... then back off a little ;)
Hmm.. Guess we have to use the wifes vacuum cleaner :)

Here's a real challenge for you (perhaps marketable!)...
Create a dual "jet-drive" instead of props. Perhaps screened intake ports from the sidewalls of the tub to direct water to internal...

LOL, actually not a maiden voyage yet. Just the frame and axles installed in the lower shell. I'm gonna run the hose in the lower shell and fill 6" or so and check for leaks while it's still up on...
Yah, I think I'll stick with shear pins. I feel the broken axle resulted from a previous owner using bolts instead of pins. I have had no trouble punching broken pins out, but have come across bolts...
I was going to run out and buy Grade 5 bolts for my 70's Argo axles and hubs, but Am now considering using Shear Pins instead (as per original Argo assembly)
Any thoughts?

Are you certain that Chaperrel isn't stock?? I'm pretty sure my first Argo had a Chapperel in it I think. I seam to remember the word Chaperell embossed across the top of the engine. I never should...
Naw... it's a 440 Rotax Fan from a mid-70's Futura (sled). Professionally rebuilt, yes it's fast! I also have a liquid cooled Rotax 440 (with rad and fan) that I'm saving for the day I blow this one...
