axle problem

    axle problem

    im removing my front axle on my argo and cant seem to get the sproket to buge its stuck on the 2 keyways have put heat and penetrating oil on and no luck the bearings and collers are loose wondering if any body has a trick too getting this thing off

    Pain in the ARSSS, I once had to remove the oposite axle to insert a pipe long enough to reach through & hammer the stuck one out, labor intensive but worked. Good luck.

    You sure you have all the set screws backed off ? Could be a case where there's more than one.

    Rather than remove the opposite axle can you fabricate a slide hammer (dent puller) onto the wheel flange and drive it out this way?

    Have you undone the lock collar that locates the sprocket in place ?

    all set screws are loose but will give a seconde look over the pipe idea sonds like the way ill go thaks for the idea moos a boo

    wrap a good heavy decking chain around hub.give yourself a foot or so of slack then whip the chain.this works good when removing auto motive axles.i had troubles removing the axles in my argo but i had the shell split and the engine removed.had to beat the bejesus out of axle with a sledge hammer and big brass drift.

    Also a slide hammer will be quiet helpful. If you don't have one you can rent one from parts house.

    thanks alot guy have hole argo in pices doing a total restore i will try your ideas this one axle is just being a total #%*! but with the help it might just let loose

    Moose man before you put the sprockets back on the axle put a little never seize compound on the key's and sprocket key ways and you want have this problem next time you have to remove them.
