    ARgo Belt Size help

I have a 1979 argo I swoped the origional TECUMSEH 16 hp engine and put in a brand new Kohler 23 hp which is slightly larger. So I had to move it back about an inch to make matters worse the Argo came with no belt so I dont even have a starting point to go off of. I have looked everywhere for this answer no luck. Should the belt be snug on the pullys, or does it need to be a little lose? I have it measured to a 38 3/8. Any help would be great
