    Argos rebuild questions (newbie)

    So I bought 2 Argos to hopefully make one workable unit. I have read a lot on here but I am sure I missed some of the answers to my questions so I will ask them here.

    I have no idea the year of it, still need to pull the serial number off the dash (if it is even there)

    - The unit came with a snowmobile engine and I am replacing that with a v-twin 4 stroke. The clutch came off it just fine, but it is for a tapered crank shaft. I read about using the adapter shaft that is sold on ebay, but did not read how well they work. Any success stories?

    - I also have another clutch on the 2nd engine that came with it, I am hoping it is a keyed clutch, and if it is I might just use it. my worry is how serviceable it is and if I need a different belt for it.

    - The chain tighteners all need work, they are the ones that look like a "L" and have a sprocket on them. I saw that McMaster sells new sprockets for them, but is there a better solution that someone sells?

    - Why does it seem the norm to go from the 3 bolt to 5 bolt axles? Mine are 3 and seem fine.

    - Finally is there a repo of user manuals?

    I think that is a good start for now

    send a pic of the unit but from what you said you have an early to mid 70,s argo htb. im not sure if they make the 3 bolt center anymore so you might have to buy new axls if they are in bad shape. garnett.m on youtube has some really good vids of him rebuilding his old 70,s argo. i think he made his own type of tensioner but still with a small sproket. there a serial number on engine and tranny FYI. good luck on the old babies and hope it all works out!

    Richard Relics, and possibly others, sell adapters to go from 3 lug to 5 lug rims.

    J, congrats on the new machines, Where did you find them?

    The clutching may be adaptable but the engagement will be all wrong ( by at least half).
    The adjusters if still in good shape other than needing sprockets I found work well.
    If you have 3 bolt rims keep using them, they are bot available any longer which is why people go 5 or 4 lug.
    The Argo site has manuals downloadable, if you cant get one I could send one to you by email.

    As far as the year you are probably pre 1976.
