my first attex 400 chief qustions

Well I did it now! Along with my two vw baja's, the sand rail, two dirt bikes, and three different 4x4 trucks....... I am now the proud owner of an attex 400 chief! It's all here, mechanically anyway. I need a few parts and pointers to get it up to its potential. First of all is there any way to tighten the chain sections (2) on either side of the trans, to the main drive chains that run parallel to the floor, all of the rest of the chains seem to be in good shape with no chain drag. It seems like I might be able to loosen the motor mounts and pull it up a little, but it does'nt seem to be enough to take out all the slack not to mention that where the steering rods connect to the trans. There is a piece of angle iron that would rub. I thought about replacing the chain, as it may have stretched....... I just figured I would ask first! I did see the manual section and plan on printing one off as soon as I get some more stinkin' ink for my printer...
Also does any one know of a place to get parts? I don't really NEED anything, but wouldn't mind replacing a couple things. I do not have any headlights on it so i would buy some of those right away if they were available, I could also use a couple extra sprockets, mine are all here one of them has a broken tooth, and would just like to have an extra in my tool bag for "JUSTIN"
One last thing, when running lights or a radio or any 12v item, how do i get charge back to the battery? thanks all for your time and info!!!! -jake666

Welcome to the site. There's an idler sprocket and a carriage bolt that has a lock nut that you can tighten to take up the chain slack for the middle and rear axles. As far as searching for parts goes, try posting an ad on the wanted section of the site here. Whatever you do, DON'T deal with Route6x6 because you'll pay rediculously high amounts of money for inferior quality parts. Many people have been burned and I don't want to see it happen to more people that are new to the hobby. The engine has a built in charging system. You can't run many accessories, but it will still do a decent job. Is this the Attex that was on the Craigslist in Pennsylvania? Post some pictures if you could, we'd love to see it.

well, thank you jpswift1! I appreciate the heads up on route 6x6... That was my next call! Would I be better off looking on e-bay then, if nothing here in the wanted section pans out? I bought this Attex in Idaho here were I live. I practically stole it for what I paid, (and what I have seen them going for, now that I know what I am looking for parts wise)...... I will definitely post some pics soon. SO, for my money out of the gates, what is the best place to start upgrading this thing as far as the Attex brand goes? Once I get the drive chain issue hammered out... I have an additional 440 I could put in it, (did not come with it) But would rather make sure that there is a complete, mechanically sound machine that is ready for x-tra power. I read somewhere that I can upgrade to 1 1/4" axles. With that said , maybe better bearings and chain also? I also hear tires are a big deal... this rig has knobbies.... booooo... almost new but won't tread water and doesn't skid steer as good. Thanks again for your advise!
