Congratulations, Lyle;
The ST400 is a very nice machine: ABS body, T20 transmission, and #50 chains. The Sachs isn't stock, but if you want a two-stroke it's not a bad choice. If I remember right, the 440 was around 34 HP. There are a bunch of us on this site with very similar machines and we'll be glad to help if you need it.

Ditch the Sachs engine. Find a JLO/Rockwell 400 or 440 or a Cuyuna 440 and you'll be much happier with it. Plus the resale value will be much higher.Originally Posted by bigdog62

Put new bearings on all axles and chains hooked electric motor to run to it runs smooth and quit trans works as should
Any other things I need to look for
St-400 is a pita machine to adjust the rear chains on. remove a couple of the bolts holding the engine/trans cradle to the frame... I usually only run 2 bolts per side. It doesn't make the bolts any easier to get to, but there are half as many. Both my racer and my tank trainer are set up this way and I have had no issues.

Pulled tub apart a lot easer to set from in place and mount the tank how would you put back together
Rivets or staples
I use self tapping machine screws and then cut them off so they don't stick out, that way if I ever want to take the top back off I can. Also, I bought an Attex last week and it has a Sachs SA280 and it runs really well. I took it out for a quick ride the other day and I was very happy with the way it ran. I had to mess with my ignition also and mine had a Bosch which is the same as the JLO so it isn't very hard to figure out.
