    Question on Aligning clutches

Hello everyone, I picked up an old Max II 6x6 and have it almost completely restored with a rebuilt t-20, rebuilt engine, plastic welded everything and welded up some tow points to the frame with external D-rings in case my water test goes south.
I need to obviously tighten the clutch belt but before I get to welding a new engine mount plate, I think I need to shift the engine to the left.
I'm not sure how to align these clutches as the engine clutch will push the belt to the right before the trans clutch starts pushing it to the right and in.
should the right side of each clutch be in line?
    Any suggestions?

Tony if you have the Comet setup here is how it should be aligned:

On the two occasions I have had to align my clutches, I have had the luxury of having the frame out of the machine. I pull a string across the edge of the drive clutch (closest to the engine) and use a 1/4 inch spacer at the two contact points on the driven clutch. I then adjust the engine position so that the string perfectly contacts the drive clutch and the two points of contact on the driven.

Tony I failed to mention a couple of other things. Perhaps you already have this figured out, but just in case.... Make your engine mount adjustable so you can fine tune your belt tension. Second, don't just line up the clutches and weld the mounting plate in place. Make sure you have the correct center to center distance so your belt will fit properly, with some fine tuning via engine adjustment. Take a look at page 6 of this catalog, and make sure you have the type of clutch shown in the data. http://forums.bajasae.net/forum/uplo...SAECatalog.pdf

    Thanks dirtdobber!
I did just that, I welded my engine bolts to the bottom of an adjustable plate. It's really hard to reach under there so I welded the engine and frame bolts on the bottom and the mounting plate is adjustable. I have my belt tighter now (about 1.25" slack) and added about 5mph to the machine.
I suppose if I want more speed I can remove the governor from the engine
