I love them and we wheel regularly. However mine have been toys only. Never had a newer one. I ride with a buddy who has a '12 with that engine. Crazy strong for it's size and weight. Enjoy it! You're right, they ride so nice, quiet it would be hard for me to be mean to it. They're just a comfortable vehicle and have come a LONG ways since their roots. I'm assuming you've already found GL4x4 and GLFWDA. If not check them out. And GLFWDA is a region based group that will help keep our trails open and you the right to continue riding your jeep or argo where you'd like.
Yea I joined up with treadlightly.org, and that gave me one percent below invoice on the jeep....also gives all kinds of other perks. Wow you got the old school stuff! yea this new one is just plain unbelievable compared to my TJ....sometimes i forget its a jeep! its so comfortable, great mileage (unheard of in a jeep) and smooth ride! Im looking forward to puttin on a small lift and meatier tires....i'll post pics of my old jeep

Can barely move around in my cramped garage. LOL. In the interim 10+ years i've been able to buy most of the stuff needed for a complete frame-off restoration (fibreglass body, engine mods, and odds-n-ends. Just need space and time. Pole barn going up this year... so, we'll see. They are fun, but be warned! You can go broke quickly tinkering and beeing them up... I found out in a hurry that JEEP stands for: Just Empty Every Pocket! LOL

When I used to be on the fire department, my assistant chief had a renegade that he totally restored. like you, he had the fiberglass body and just about every nut and bolt was replaced! man that thing was cool! I think those had the 345 CI v8...somethin funky like that, sure had a distinct sound to it

heres a before and after of my 99 TJ I had....bought it pretty tore up from the dealership I worked for. had some bad rust issues on the driver side (where floor meets tub) but since i worked in the body shop....it only took me a few hours to fix. was a fun build...just buyin stuff as the money was available....same will be for the new one I have. Man I drove the hell outa that thing and it was a tank! only drive line problem i ever had was a front axle u joint that decided to go when i was pulling out bushes lol...easy cheap fix though.
