Argo track clearance - sideways to the tub.

How much clearance should there be between the edge of the track and the edge of the side of the tub? I have a set of channel tracks that been laying around here for a year and a half. I put them on my 8x8 huntmaster when it was new and I noticed the clearance was only about 3/4" or less. I drove around the yard for 2 minutes and got out and looked and the tracks had been rubbing and damaging the tub right on the ends where the track comes up around the curve of the front and rear tires. They were flexing and moving around enough to touch the tub just in the short test drive. I never put them on again. But nobody will buy them so I'm thinking of trying again, maybe I just need extra wheel spacers to get more clearance?

Get a set of spacers if you plan on running these, clearance is tight. JMO, it is a lot easier to put on spacers than a new tub.

There is only one Avenger in the gallery with channels, his clearance is also tight, there may be more to that in a thread somewhere. Check some of Buzz's threads on channels.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

coast...it would take some time, but i believe a guy could cut off 1'' of the inside of the track ( the belt and the metal grossers ). if it was layed out, marked and use a sawzall with a metal blade. you may only need to cut just the rubber belt to get enough clearance for no rubbing. just a thought .... johnboy va.

if it's the top inside edges of the metal grosser bars, maybe shave them down with a side grinder. j.b.

Wheel spacers seems like the easiest solution; I don't know how hard it would be to actually cut into the track.

I see that this thread is a little old but I run channels on my 1984 ic and I love them, you do need to install the spacers however the guy in Quebec that made them for me told me from the get go to use the spacers.

The machine has the new offset wheels and extended axles. So you just flip the wheels around and they are 3" wider. It still wasn't enough for these tracks. I ended up selling them eventually. The only track I'll ever buy will be the adair swimming tracks because we do a lot of swimming. However at a cost of nearly $7000 dollars to get them to Canada I won't be buying them any time soon, maybe some time in the next 10 years.
