Starter stays engaged in run position

Hello all. I have been fixing up my 2002 conquest over winter. I relocated the battery to the back. I ran new longer wires to the battery. The problem i have now is when the key is turned to the run position ( not the start position) the starter engages and wont stop. I changed out the switch but it still does the same. I dont know what i did wrong. Anyone have any ideas. Regards

Sounds like you have "start" and "run" reversed.

You may have landed the fan wire at the starter. Wiring diagrams with color codes are in Argo parts manuals. There are several conquest manuals so go by your serial #

I checked and double checked the ignition wiring and it is correct. The original switch worked before i took it apart to rebuild it. It has the alternator installed from a previous owner. I ran a new power wire from that to the battery, the other two wires are unhooked.(always have been). At this point i dont know what i did wrong

Pull the solenoid wire from the starter and see if it is always hot and or stops cranking with the key on. Trace it from there, but sounds as if the wire is on the wrong switch pole. Are they factory switches? Does it stop cranking with the key in start?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.
