    Predator 22hp Charging System

Harbor Freight sent me a coupon book in July that had a coupon to get the 22hp Predator engine for $599. Even though I still have a lot to do before I'm ready for the engine, the coupon was only good until July 31st, so I could pass that up for the Hustler I'm rebuilding. Now that I have the engine, though, I'm looking through the manual and can't seem to find anything about a charging system. So now my mind is working....

I plan on adding a custom-built trolling motor system to my Hustler with 2 motors and joystick control (building everything myself) so I'm going to need a decent amount of power.

If I wanted to add a small alternator to the engine, how would be the best way? Slip a pulley on the shaft between the clutch (a comet 780) and the engine? If I do that, and the drive shaft is no longer long enough, would it be safe to create a drive shaft extension out of 1" stock with a hole down the center and just use a longer bolt to hold everything on?

And yes, I know that anything I do is going to change the alignment of the clutches. I have to make a new engine mount anyway, so I'd like to tackle this now rather than down the line.

I'm open to any thoughts, recommendations, comments, accusations of insanity, etc. lol

I have that engine in my Max ll and I will be using a Honda GX 670 stub shaft on the PTO (flywheel) side. A pulley on that shaft will turn a 1 wire
mini alternator. I dont the engine orientation on your vehicle

How much was the PTO shaft? I'm looking to keep my costs down as much as possible. Might see if I can machine my own.

if you have not mounted the motor Vegas Carts makes a pulley for the clutch side of the motor to run a generator or alternator
Billet V-Belt Pulley for use with Comet 780 Clutch & Starter/Gen
    Acta non verba

They have a 7 Amp system. You will definately need an external alternator if you plan on running 2 trolling motors. Run the alternator off the non clutch side with a PTO stub shaft, I picked my shaft up from Ebay for $50 shipped.

Did you get a genuine Honda stub shaft, or did you pick up a shaft for some other engine that happened to fit the Predator, or was there modification involved? Cheapest honda shaft I can find is like $249.
