Personally, its on the bench, so pick up some new head gaskets and pull the heads. The I/C Twins will run hot easily, so keeping them clean is key.

Are you bringing it down to idle first, and letting it idle for 5-10 seconds? If not, its just dumping all the unburnt fuel into the exhaust and thats what causes the "pop"

Yes they will, but you chance burning out the voltage regulator.

Set intake at .005-.007" and exhaust should be set at .010-.012". Reason exaust is set with more gap is that the exhaust valves expand more then the intake due to the heat of the exhaust gasses....

How did it die? They are not that hard to rebuild, unless a rod is sticking outside of the block or something.

Well she runs... kinda. Not sure if the fuel pump diaphrams are shot or what, but having a hard time keeping it to run consistantly. Also, bands need some major adjustment One side hardly drives it....

I need to know how the throttle works on a Sierra? I looked through the gallery pictures but can't really tell. The previous owner installed a pull throttle on the dash, but I don't think that's...

Type F is a type of automatic transmission fluid. Its a little thicker then the normal Dexron 3 that GM and others use. Type F was introduced by Ford in 1967 for their automatics. Also used by Toyota.
