I had this happen once with a briggs v-twin. The wire connected to the two coils has a diode in it, and the diode failed. I replaced the wire, and no problems since.

Install a oil pressure switch at your oil filter, and wire it through that. The hour meter only works with the motor running.

To my knowledge there is no adjustment for the front chains, just replace them. The sprockets should be ok as long as they have a small flat on the end and don't come right to a point.
