Yes if you have not repaired that wire don't come back til you do.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Ok now how can I repair it? Just join all the wires and cut those metal ends off?

DO NOT JOIN ANY WIRES! Replace what is burnt, if you cannot repair what is burnt with the engine in the current configuration you will get your wish and need to get to the stator.

This will keep you busy awhile, needing to remove the air cleaner assy., the fresh air intake duct, the engine shroud, and if you can not repair the wire from there, the flywheel. If you have to go that far you can do the stator as you are already there.

Would suck to have to do all that for nothing, but you'll learn that way.

    Ground out?

What would cause a plastic connector to melt? Grounded out? Also would a wire that is exposed would that make a connection melt?

Corrosion. When current goes through a bad connection and the connector develops a resistance it starts to get hot.

I'd replace all the bare wire, plus 3-6", depending if there was any heat damage making the insulation brittle and not flexible...
