I haven't been on in awhile, during a lapse in judgement I sold my Max and got a 4 wheeler. I regretted it almost immediately. I just sold the wheeler and got a 1979 Attex Super Chief 500. It has an Arctic Cat (Kawasaki) engine in it. Once I get the pastoral paint job off it, it will be in pretty good shape. I'm going to tinker with it this weekend.

Vintage Attex Indenification/Questions

I purchased this vintage Attex and am in the process of restoring it but have a few questions:

I purchased this vintage Attex and am in the process of restoring it but have a few questions:

1. I was told this is an ST/300/D, is that correct?

2. The belt on the transmission now is a Dayco, and the with does not appear to be wide enough, thus the clutch does not function properly. (It can't open all the way). Is that the correct belt? If not, where can I get the correct belt?

3. The axle hubs need the bearings replaced, and the seals. I think I found compatible bearings for relatively cheap online, but where can the seals be purchased? Do the bearings need to be high quality or will cheap ones purchased online work?

4. The pucks on the Power Transmission are worn. I heard that I can use a hole saw to make new ones from a standard car brake pad, does that work? If so, what size hole saw do I need?

I hope you guys can help me out!

Recently traded quad for a 6x6 crazy colt .... I absolutely love the thing. I have wanted one for years finally got one that needs a lot more work than I though . I'm not worried about body work just mechanical ... I was under the impression all this attex needed was a throttle assembly and cable . I rigged throttle up to test ride and doesn't seem to want turn left (transmission issue?) Then looking into it , it seems everyone has this t20 trans ... Is it possible to stick a t20 in attex with original skid steering . Someone had mentioned that I could put a maxii50 frame in it ... I was hoping someone can point me in the direction that would be easiest . Also if anyone knows where I can get a attex frame parts and bakerhill 7000 transmission parts ... I need help with this thing and parts and don't know where to start haha plz advz

I have been working for a while on a frame off restoration on a 300. I got the frame all painted, new bearings, etc., and I left the old cast iron Briggs in place. All was going well up to the point where I finished the bodywork (a long time ago I made my living slopping Bondo) and I walked into the Auto Paint Supply Store. I asked the clerk what are the newer products on the market. This tub had a fair share of repairs I made with Black Goo, so I decided to go with something other than yellow. Well, I went with a Forest Green Flip/Flop Metallic, a Clear Coat over that, and a top finish with Holographic Green Flake, and more clear. Not all is new product, just new to me. POR15 was used on the inside of the tub under the frame (only because I had extra paint). I am about half way through the paint job, and it is starting to look decent. I have a few hours of tinkering left on the drive train, and I hope to get this on the road by the summer. I will post a couple pics when the paint is done.

I relocated the coils away from the engine on the super chief I also took 6" flex pipe and have it so when I close the hood it seals around the engine air intake so it pulls fresh cool air from out side. And increased the air cleaner size. I brought the axles in 5" since I'm not going to run the tracks. These mods have increased the speed and cut out on the over heating and hesition.

I just bought an Attex and don't know the first thing about 6x6 AATVs so am sure happy to see all the great info here. Mine has a Kohler engine swapped into it and so far I haven't found anything that looks like the drive setup mine has (doesn't have a transmission like the manuals posted show - more of a straight shaft). I don't know if it's a modification, early model or what and am not quite sure how to figure it out other than dig thru 6x6 World and hope I find something. I can't wait to get it going!
