    Throttle Lever

Have an idea for a throttle lever, thought I'd throw it out there for some input. I'd like to have a throttle that I control with my index, middle finger. I've never liked the pincky throttle, although I am use to it. I came across these and might give it a try. It's a bar end bicycle brake lever. The throttle cable would run through the stick and this would be mounted on top of the stick, allowing the index and middle finger to control the throttle. Anyone done this already? What da think?

I think its a great idea I have been thinking of doing the same thing for a while it seems like it would give you better control over the stick with the throttle on it I would go for it.

actually i have standard mountain bike levers on most of our machines. i can use any combination of fingers that is comfortable. my racer has the stock attex throttle and i'm not a big fan. i usually just hold the stick a little lower so that i can use my middle and ring fingers on the throttle. my wife has small hands and has trouble getting her hand around the stick and lever at lower throttle conditions. i need to rework the levers in her machine to make it easier for her to squeeze so i might give those bar end type levers a try in her machine. i also have a throttle lever on both sticks in my trail machine... it's pretty handy for when your hanging out one side of the machine to shift weight and get unstuck, and need to work the throttle with one hand and hang on to the roll bar with the other. if i'm hanging out the left side of the machine i can hold the roll bar with my left hand, use the left throttle and lever with my right hand and work the right stick with whatever foot is free.

Several brands/models out there. Some have internal cable. Some external cable. Pic I posted is of a internal cable, two finger model, which I think would be perfect. Also called "reverse brake levers".

One problem I ran into making the Warthog was finding a lever that would provide enough throw to open the carburetor(S) fully. It's tough to tell without actually mounting it but from the picture it looks like it might not have enough actuation before the lever would hit the stick.

with the minibike type levers like northern tool sells you only have 1 place to hook the cable, but with a lot of newer mountain bile levers there are 2 options... one of which gives a little more travel for the cable. not sure if they would have enough throw for a Mikuni VM though

Not really pertaining to that lever but Dons starcraft has the coolest lever I have seen. I will do the best to describe it.

Its like a normal lever but where the barrel of the cable goes is a slot. In that slot is a sleeve that can be adjusted with a little thumbscrew. That adjustment moves the cable closer to the stick for less travel and away from the stick for more cable travel. Very sweet design as far as that goes.

They operate the same style brakes for bikes as regular brake levers, so I would guess they would have to have the same amount of throw as regular ones. If Race has enough throw with regular ones, I would ass-u-me that these would too. They ARE pricey for new ones, you get two, and cables. If I can find some cheap on ebay, I think I'll try it.
