I live in Parkersburg WV and I know where an older Max 2 is sitting behind a house. I may go try to score it for cheap and see if we can get Aaron fixed up. I think Cinci is about 4 Hrs from me but I do make it that way form time to time though
Max 2 would be a great machine for him

Rednine11,I am glad to see there are good people out there that are willing to help others.I know too well how tough times are and would be glad to help any way that i could.I'm sure there are other members that would contribute a part here and there to help out a new member.

Rednine, You are exactly right. An old Max would be the perfect machine for Aaron. Im just thinking of easiness to work on, maintain and get parts for. That be cool and extremely nice of you.

Other good machines would be Argo, Attex or hustler. They are the most common so parts are still around plus they are easy to keep going. Scramblers are good too but its just a bit more to get the older drive units working good again. Just thinking a old amphicat with the plunger style transmission might also be a good one but parts probably a bit harder to find.

We are doing good guys, but noone has addressed his lack of places to ride, so I will. First off member george has every model 3rd gen attex made and lives on long island ny. I personally use a honda element (4banger) to pull my machine around up to 13 hour drives to ride with fellow members. There are always groups going for rides on both public and private land. I know members that live in pittsburgh, cleveland, and nyc with no land at home that all own multiple machines. Heck member JPSwift once built a motorcycle and in an apartment he lived in from what I remember of some pics, and he most likely owned over a dozen machines at the time. So we can get you a place to ride too. Btw,the trailer I use to take my machines to rides I scored on barter for some crap I got for free, so that can be worked into the budget too.
I build my machines on a budget. If you can't respect that you can kiss my Attex

Wow... gentleman.... I am speechless! and I have to admit I don't understand why so much kindness would be offered to a person who is a total stranger, and though it does not seem to be enough, all I know to do is say THANK YOU! I have never received such a warm and gracious welcoming from a group of people in my life. All I did was post a note stating I wanted to read your posts and now I have people offering to shop for AATVs for me, deliver them, teach me how to repair/drive them, and even help me find places to ride. Incredible! I wish the whole world could see this site!

rednine11... the Max II sounds great... how much does your friend/neighbor want for this vehicle? I trust the folks on this site when they say it's a good machine to learn with.

amphibious drew... I cannot think of anything I would enjoy more than to join you folks on a group ride. when/where are these posted?

and also thanks to Coosa and LarryW you guys are all awesome!

Strato, the max II is a great machine. The next big event is in Ashtabula Ohio...6x6 Racing in Ashtabula, Ohio June 23-24 2012 . It is a great place to get to ride some different machines and see what strengths and weaknesses are. Last year I didn't finish my racer in time and ran my trail machine with a drive clutch that was sticking in low gear. I was thrilled to just be out there and the members on this site helped me switch cages and get my machine going very last minute. Here is a little video. I think its pretty funny.

There is also an entire forum section on the forum for trail rides. Trail Rides, Clubs and Events

I would however really really love to learn how to work on these, rebuild engines, transmissions, and such. So I guess my question is if you gentlemen really feel its possible for a man who knows nothing about this stuff to learn how to rebuild an ancient piece of crap into a functioning vehicle?
There are lots of very knowledgable people here, and I can assure you that none of them were born knowing how to fix AATV's. This is something you can learn, and have a lot of fun doing it. If you have thumbs, you can do it

My first 6 wheeler i traded an old corvette flywheel and a hundred dollar bill for.... Bought a new motor off ebay ($250)... a new clutch off ebay ($100). So for under $500 I had a running machine with a new 4-Stroke motor. Don't let the money be the limiting factor. Like others have said everyone on here will help with the knowledge part... Awesome site and Awesome Hobby.
