Hey everyone! Recently aquired a Max IV and Im really excited about it. Im having a weird issue where the right side does not want to engage reverse. Left does fine and fwd is fine for both sides. It appears to have the ez shift kit installed so I wanted to see if anyone had a manual for that kit handy? Seems like I just need to adjust the linkage...
Hi Colin. Can you give us more information about your problem? When you say the right side does not want to engage reverse, have you observed the linkage and diamond shifter and it is not traveling far enough?
Yep. It seems like thats what the problem is but Im unable to tell 100% so I figured the manual would be a good starting point to make sure its adjusted properly
Upon further inspection it looks like the shaft connecting to the shift diamond is bent a bit. Are these finicky enough that a bend in that shaft could cause it to not shift into reverse properly?
I guess the shafts do have a bend in them so it might just be a matter of making sure the angle is going the proper direction. Can anyone verify this on theirs?
Can you disconnect the linkage and see if you can manually shift the right side into reverse? I don't have that kind of machine to know what the linkage should look like, but if its bent that could be a problem if there is some resistance in the diamond shifter. Sometimes, the diamond shifter will collect debris on top of the part that slides into the transmission and tends to freeze up. It wouldn't hurt to blow any debris away and give it a good squirt of penetrating oil.
If you can pull the diamond shifter out without too much trouble go ahead and do so for inspection purposes. Sometimes the pin will wear such that it doesn't actually push the gear fully into position.
I pulled out the right shifter and there was a flat spot on the side of the little post so I bought another one and put it in. No change... I still feel like the linkage needs to be adjusted so I am hoping some of you here know the proper way to adjust them or what direction I should go from here. Reverse works great on the left and fwd seems to work perfectly on both sides. I took it for a 4-5 mile ride today and it rode great... just no reverse on right side...
