    Please clarify... Chain length..

When the manual say's a chain is "96 P" is that 96 plates ? Or 96 pins ?? Ive seen it said both ways on here, i'm trying to learn all i can since I decided to do the chains.. I made a home made chain tightener out of a cheap pair of vice-grips, with a good set of small vice-grips as leverage...

It actually means "pitch" which is the measurement center pin to center pin.
But pitch, pins, plate, it all works out the same.
