Hi Warren, welcome to the forum. It's so cool that you have an Amphicat that was purchased new by your grandfather. I'm not sure what brand tires you have locally but look for some that are either 20" or 21" with a chevron pattern. The down side to your amphicat is that the axles are fairly small so don't go too aggressive with the tread pattern on the tires that you select.

Hey there folks, first time poster here. I am MAX_FAB (Max for short. well, not really.. but you can call me Max) and I live in central VA, just west of Richmond. Non-mainstream stuff generally interests me, and unusual off-road vehicles are no exception. I loosely perused these forums in the past while thinking of building my own hydrostatic 6x6 vehicle, but eventually gave up on the idea thinking that it would be cheaper and less time consuming to buy a platform and repair than to build from nothing. I recently picked up a 1998 Max II that is mostly complete, yet is going to need a pretty good amount of love to get in order. No worries though, as I have a fairly good aptitude for mechanical work and do a little bit of metal fabrication, so it should be fun. :-) I mostly plan on it being a utility vehicle to get stuff done around the house and ride around my existing trails. I also thought that it would be a fun project to involve my 6yo son in, as he loves turning wrenches and helping dad out where he can. I'm sure that I'll have many questions during the rehab process, but promise to search before asking.

I have gone through this site's info sections and printed out an owners manual, the tutorials on tear-down/rebuild/adjustment of the T-20, and anything else that I can find on the Max II platform. I would LOVE to be able to get my hands on a service manual or exploded parts diagram of the Max II.. if one exists, and would give anybody who might have one a virtual high-five if they were willing to share a copy or tell me where I could acquire one!

I have always been interested in the AATV, well any ATV for that fact. AATV are much better, go anywhere you want. I am Retired military( US Army ), now living in Alabama north of Birmingham. I recently picked up a MAX II to enjoy with my boys, that was completely disassembled for dirt cheap( compared to most I have seen). Torn down is the easy part, I am in severe need of repairing the lower body, tears and cracks all over, finding the repair parts is fun. I will post pics of what I have soon. I am unable to tell what year it is but from the engine I am guessing about a 1979. Hope to get to know people and places to have fun and what not around. Hopefully I can get her running soon and let her loose on the trails and water.

Hi my name is Jeff. I just purchased a 1978 Argo 8 x 8 a few months's back.
I think it must have been a "barn" find. Previous owner put in a lot of new parts.
I am trying to finish with motor related repairs.
Right now need to replace a wheel bearing on front left tire. Any suggestions
on where to find information on size of bearing and a supplier?

Hi Shooter- Congrats on getting an Argo.-Where are you from. Most Americans seem to buy axle bearings from Buffalo Bearings for Attex and Max machines but I'm not sure about Argo .

What Phillip wote, but you can take the bearing to a local bearing house and have them match them up also. If your frame has 4 bolt holes in it you could upgrade the inners to greasable with the proper flange set as well. the 78 should have 1-1/4 bearings in it with one inch jack shaft bearings all using eccentric collars.
Measure the distance from the body to the axle hub before removal for easy, in line, replacement.
