Ok fellas, I've noticed a few different parking brake styles on the Hustler's. How about we post up some pictures of the parking brake systems on what are known and/or confirmed model numbers as this may be another way to determine the model range of someone's (mine now and others in the future) incomplete Hustler.
I'd be interested in seeing them too - I've got to fab one up for my Hustler project.
Every stock hustler parking brake I have seen is a single disk bolted to the right side output shaft on T-20. Metal L beam welded off frame vertical with a spring caliper brake operated by a single cable. Parking brake is 2 pads sandwich clamping on the t20 disk. Only works when T-20 is in F or R, not N. Mine was complete crap and I cut it off with a grinder during my rebuild. I park it sideways on hills or I use a 4x4 block, or tree, etc.. ala "Redneck Parking Break"
I think I've figured mine to be a early900 due to the 3 air holes in the upper body and the front seat support, seems only 900's have 3 air holes ( 2 covered and 1 open) also the muffler did exit between tires, 945 and 950's seem to have none unless one has been added to right side but most pictured have none, 980's have one on right and square hole on left.
My parking brake is on the trans though I beleive it was added as the disc is welded on trans.
Mine is a 1973 hustler 880. The brake rotor is welded to the sproket tube on the left center axle. When i got it it only had the brake lever (alot like what you might see in an old u-haul truck) and the rotor, so i modified an old attex caliper to work, and fabbed up the linkage. Surprisingly, it works pretty darn good. Ill try and get a couple pics up.
