I would check with 6x6World member Meinfield. His Hustler originally came with a Kohler 4 stroke and he might have some info on the belt. I believe that the correct belt for your application would be a Dayco Max 1078. You can see it if you click on Meinfield's picture of his very nicely restored Hustler.
Good luck with it, and congrats on the purchase of a very fine machine!

Jeff's right, the factory belt was the max 1078, although I think that Dayco has changed the part number. Check the link below, they have a good inventory of belts.
HP3012 - Arctic Cat Dayco HP (High Performance) Belt. Fits some mid power 75-81 Arctic Cat Snowmobiles. Post some pictures of your hustler if you can. ![]() |

My husband is trying to put it over the small pulley first then the large pulley.
Richard told me it was the 41" belt when I called him. We can purchase belts locally. Help is appreciated. THis is a pretty nice 6 x 6. We dont really require much work on it. The outside is excellant condition. THe only flaw I could find is a small tear on the back seatrest where the muffler is. It looks like it has melted the casing. We can probably fix it with fiberglass but first we'll have to figure out how to get the heat of it. Thanks |

I will be adding some pictures this evening I hope. I clicked the link for that belt and it is too long. The one i just purchased is 41". WE have a box like thing over the muffler that is a problem to work around. WE might have to take it off to get that belt on. Thank you for your help!

You need to pry the transmission side clutch apart and wedge it open with a block of wood.
To open it you need to turn the inner sheave independently of the outer sheave and push/pull/pry to get it to open. Once its open, you can push the belt all the way down into the clutch. This will give you enough slack to get it over the engine pulley. |
