    A New Hustler Owner

I just bought a Hustler for $275. It's missing a lot, but I like a challenge. What kind of motors work with these beasts? I'm guessing anything from 14 - 22 horsepower? Mine has no engine, but it does have a good T20 and clutch.

That sounds like a pretty good deal, depending on what kind of shape the Hustler's in. Different models came with different engines: everything from a 15 Kohler single to a 440 Kohler 2-stroke twin. With all the room in the engine bay, there's not a lot of limits to your power choices.
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Welcome Gtband and congrats on the Hustler. There aren't many of us compared to Argo and Max machines. Do you know what model you have?

I'll get that info later today. I may have found a 16HP Koehler engine for $200! Could this work?

Certainly it could work, but I suggest you keep looking and find something with more horses. If you go with the 16, make sure it is in good condition so you can realize all 16 of those horses. Also, although obvious but make sure its a horizontal shaft engine and the crank is 1 in. diameter x roughly 3 inches long with a 1/4 inch keyway. That way your clutch options are better.

You may have to modify the engine mount and if so, pay very close attention to belt alignment and tension.

    So here's what I've got....
I do have a few parts that aren't pictured. Engine cover, seat, etc.
Is there a serial number I could look for, or a model number somewhere?
Also, is there anything available that I could look at to help fabricate missing parts?
For instance, the top of the transmission has 2 "arms" not hooked up. I believe they might be for forward and reverse. I have no clue what's missing. If I had something to look at, it would be much easier.
    Anyway, what do you think?Resized1.jpgResized2.jpgResized3.jpgResized4.jpgResized5.jpg
