    governor adjusting

Just reconnected the governor on my 1985 950 18hp opposed twin Briggs. Had to buy a fabricated throttle link so length may be different the original. I can't get enough speed out of her, when governor kicks in throttle is only about 1/4 open. I moved the spring on the governor's lever assembly(there are 5 different slots to choose from) but that made it only open about 1/8. Do I need to adjust the lever assemby's position on the governor crank post?

I have the same engine in my Hustler BIG FOOT. I could snap a picture of what the factory Briggs assembly looks like if it would help you.

Just talked to Mike at Roue6x6 and he told me how to adjust the governor. He said to loosen the nut that fastens the lever assembly to the crank post and move the post counter clockwise while holding the lever assembly from moving.
When the rpm's get high enough the crank shaft rotates counter clockwise thus closing the throttle slightly. Very helpful guy, Thanks Mike!

When I adapted the Briggs I/C to my Max IV, I had to drill a hole in the linkage closer to the pivot point to get more throttle. I wish it were that easy on my Vanguard.

I tried adjusting by loosening the nut to move the arm. It would let it rev higher however it won't idle back down all the way. So I put it back to stock..
