I would try putting it back together right and running it. If it dont use any oil/no smoke,knocks,etc... Keep it and run it with the governor guts installed but over ride it like I did. I never looked into removing the guts so Im not sure about the gear splashing oil but could be possible. I know ponys are ponys but I dont think it would be that much of an increase in hp with the gear removed anyway. Obviously extra weight spinning will take some but I dont think its anything substantial.

Not off hand so I did some searching and the honda gxv390 should be between 71-120 it looks like according to some other post on another site someone stated. Probably not 100% but should give you an idea at least.

I'm pretty sure those DO NOT have a compression relief mechanizm......so I'd say 100 would be low. 120+ would be good

I would leave the governor connected at least until the break in period is finished.
Its too easy to over-rev the engine when your in the mud.

ok just waiting on the replacement from the factory, no questions asked just had to pay the shipping of the old one back. should be here soon so in the meantime i yanked larryw's idea and put in the split shifter and new throttle, used a bike brake lever which is all aluminum instead of plastic like the old one.IMG_3263.jpgIMG_3264.jpg

Engine is solid some minor adjustments are needed
eBay is where I got mine at 300 plus a year warranty
Mine runs great if u wanna run tracks I recommend 18 hp min or beef the 13 up with custom parts before u run it so it saves on extra gaskets and effort only drawback is the recoil start as it is opposite from the rear so u have to make a way to hand start it in case of a dead battery

Yes they are really cheap. Why so cheap, is there something I should know about these engines before I buy one. And I noticed they are not twin cylinder doesn't that matter??
