    Another Belt question

18hp vanguard, high rev kit. with proper belt tension I was able to go to 5300 RPM under load no issues but found my drive clutch sheaves were not pressed together correctly and the belt would not travel to the top of the drive clutch, after fixing that I am only able to get to 4200 RPM under load and 5500 RPM no load, both clutches appear to be working as they should. the belt is traveling to the top of the drive clutch sheave. belt tension is around an inch or a little more, I did not use a ruler.

would my belt still be a little tight and be putting to much load on the engine once the drive train is engaged?. other than this my overhauled machine is running pretty awesome.

thanks again for al the advice and help given to me on this forum.

    Update,
I checked my belt deflection and it is was at 1 3/4, lossened it some more to 2 inch deflection, top RPM is now 4400 RPM on a long straight away. I am actually very happy with the power and speed as it is. All I can now think to do is change my throttle lever to get more throw on the butterfly valve. Still hoping to end up with 5000-5300 RPM
