chain tensioner

Should the chain be over the adjuster to start with? Seems like the adjuster won't go down far enough. They are the new RR ones.

On the MaxIV the chain goes under the chain tensioners.

if the adjuster won't go down far enough, the chain may be too long from stretching due to age. a half link may due the trick or may need a new chain. what machine is it on and which chain ? j.b.

1976 max ll brand new chain. the rear chain bottom went over the adjuster. The front chain top went over the adjuster.

on my 2001 max 2 the original tensioner on the front chains was on top of the top of the chain. you pushed down on the tensioner to tighten the chain. the tensioner on the rear chain was under the bottom chain. you pulled the tensioner up to tighten the chain. in most applications, the tensioner is always on the ''slack'' side of the chain. so because we mostly always are going forward, the front chains slack side are on top and the rear chain slack sides are on the bottom..hope this helps johnboy va.
