    New max IV owner.

So I bought my first aatv last week. Took the it out for a test drive with the family. And they love it. Now I need to figure out how to take care of it. It is a max IV serial number 5710. Which looks like it was built in 1978. From the parts diagrams that I have seen it looks like the t-20 has been moved forward and the engine (which I was told is a Koehler 25hp) has been lowered closer to the frame. After a couple of hours of playing around I noticed that the rear axle chains started slapping the bottom of the tub. Not sure yet on how to adjust them at the moment because I just had surgery on my shoulder and can't tinker with it for a while

Here are some pictures. Any advice would be great. Also what oil are most owners using in the Koehler 25hp and maybe a service manual IMG_0100.jpgIMG_0107.jpgIMG_0106.jpg

You need to post your location. That way we can let you know when there is a ride in your aria.

May be a 25, do you see a k with three numbers? Believe 25s were either 582 or 782, they at be stamped in the shroud or on the block.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

    My M-IV has a Kohler Command 25. I use NAPA brand 10w-30.
Regarding chain adjustment, mine has the adjusters on either side of the center sprocket. It uses a 3/4" wrench. Note: once these adjusters run our of adjustment the chains will need to be changed. It is highly recommended to use good quality chain, like Tsubaki Omega, as an example. Stay away from cheapo chinese chain, they stretch/break easy. Keep the chains lubed regularly. I use white lithium in a spray can.
    Enjoy your ride.

You are absolutely right Wedge. Everybody should at least tell us what State or Province they live in. It isn't too helpful when some member says he is from Ontario Canada,so am I, but it's closer for me to drive to Florida than Thunder Bay Ontario. Bye the way I don't think that "Alaska 2016" is from Texas?

My guess is the guy lives in Alaska, hence Alaska2016 as his alias. But which city/town/village I don't know.

From the home page very bottom there is a link to manuals, but for your ease of navigation, here are a few of the links from that page:

Enjoy your new toy. They are as much fun to tinker with as they are to drive. And the more you tinker, the more you will have fun with it. I have learned so much in the past year! While I could have bought a new one, this older one has forced me to become more in tune with how it works. And because of that, I will probably take better care of it. Knowing what others did not take care of just reinforces the need to do better with it now.

Sorry forgot about that, but I am in Anchorage, Alaska. I am thankful for the information. But it is going to be a another month or so before I can really start to tinker with it as I had to have a bicep tendon repair two weeks ago and I am not supposed to lift more than a coffee cup for at least 6 weeks.

It is an ONAN 25 hp. I finally found some numbers to look up. When I called to order a heated throttle cable they were a little surprised at that it was an ONAN and not a Koehler
