perfect, I found whats left of a painted over decal and can make out 20hp, so it looks like the 20hp. Do you know if these came on Max IVs from the factory? Just wondering if it is a retro fit or original.

    Hello finmad,
Sorry to chime in so late. I'll say it's the M20 by looking at the cooling tins over the heads. The M18's are flush with the ends of the blower cover while the 20's protrude sightly (as do the ones in your pic) due to longer stroke. The 18 and the 20 have the same bore, the 20 just has longer throws on the crank and taller jugs. I'm pretty sure IV's were available with the Kohler Magnum engine. I believe somewhere on this site you can key in your s/n and get quite a bit of info on your specific machine.

Yep it is the magnum 20hp. I got the manual online and spent the last two weeks going through it. Changed out the gaskets and seals and cleaned it up. I installed it and it started right up.
