You can't argue with that, smokin c. That's an excellent price for a 3000lb winch! Especially w/wireless remote control. I'm useing Bear Claw 2800lb wireless remote winch. I busted the spool 2 months out of the 1 yr warranty, and they sent me a new (NOT RECON) one, no questions asked! (Not just the spool, THE WHOLE THING! W/Remote!) And told me to keep the old one for spare parts if i ever need them.

winch size
I have had my 2500 pound factory warn winch on my MaxIV and it almost burn out on me while I was out in the swamp by myself stuck in the most God awful place. I had to hook to three different trees and keep all six wheels turning to get out. The winch was so hot that you couldn't touch it! It stopped on me three different times! After this I bought a 4500 pound viper winch which sits on the front of my Max today! My theory, better to much than not enough if you are going into bad places!

I always carry a couple of " snatch blocks " with me along with an extra 30 feet of nylon flat strap . I have been told its good to use your winch off and on and off and on if a lot of winch power is needed . This way your winch does not get so hot.

Remember, a winch is pulling "DEAD WEIGHT" plus the resistance of the circumstances of what caused you to get stuck in the first place. If you still have power to the wheels, you can assist the winch, taking a great deal of stress/work off it. The key is knowing the resistance, and the proper rigging to overcome it. You could actually pull a 2000 lb vehicle with a 1000lb winch and not hurt/overstress a thing if you rig it right. Not saying it's common, but it is quite doo-able. "Snatch Blocks" have been mentioned, WHY?; Because they work!!! Thay are cheap, compact, and easy to use. My general rule is; (Regardless of what capacity winch you may have) If you are in doubt, rig a two-to-one tackle. This means run your cable out to an anchor point, through a snatch block, and back to your vehicle. (Snatch block secured to the anchor point.) And if the vehicle has power to the wheels, USE IT! I got 2-3000lb. gorilla xt winches on e-bay for a little over $200 delivered. They come with a snatch block and a 10' remote. Wireless remotes are a little more. I fiqure I'll try the winches for awhile before spending more cash on them. My 2 cents Later Mike D
