Consider not beating on it...lol. that's why i stay far from snowmobiles, every time i touch one, it breaks or gets stuck. Not worth the time money or frustration, but my max is. Definitely check...
DuPont Chain-Saver works pretty good...it's wax based, easy to clean and re-apply. Really haven't seen any dirt / sand stick to it yet
Taking clutch off to access oil filter or drain plugs on 18h B&S doesn't sound right. Not sure how your machine is set up with motor to trans. When i did have to remove that clutch, it was frozen...
Like Coffee says, line up your clutches...let the motor sit where it sits. There's plenty of play in the engine base/mount hole pattern for adjusting
Always hated Ft. Drum, but anyway...bearings in Max IV are simple to replace, probably the same for Argo. There are a lot of smart folks on here, i'm sure someone will chime in with the info you...

exactly what tbone says, that worked good for me. i also kept a tight string on the outside of the wheel hubs as a guide to keep things straight...(my axles are funky, PO replaced one or two)
