    The transmission in a 98 Max II would be a T-20.I'm not certain on the Dexron II classification I know my 03 calls for Type "F" and that is a relatively old standby of tranny fluid.

    I have a 98 also I use napa brand mercron and it covers type f and dexron II. Just read the back of the bottle and you'll see the same.

    Sure it will work, but that doesn't mean it will have the same friction properties as the original dexron or fype f fluids, which have huge differences, if you put type f in a dexron application, or vice versa.
