    Chain Tensioner alignment

    I have just purchased a 1996 Max II and noticed the right rear drive chain was off the drive sprocket. The drive sprocket is about 1/4 inch to the left of the drive wheel sprocket and chain tightener.

    The chain tightener will not stay tight after running around for a few minutes. It is all the way up to make the chain tight.


    I probably need a new chain tightener, but I am not sure what has happened on the sprocket alignment. Is the misalignment normal?

    Any ideas?

    I'm not 100% sure which sprocket is out of alignment. Is it one on an axle? If so make sure the bolt is in the sprocket tube holding it to the axle. If that is there then see if your locking collars are still on the bearings. If they aren't or if they aren't locked properly your axle could be sliding out or in causing the misalignment. If your chain tensioner is all the way up then it is time to replace your chains. They have stretched more than you can adjust them.

    clicking sound when turning

    Thanks Mike for the advice.

    I ordered a new chain tightener today. In reading it appears that the chain tightener gets worn or will not hold properly. I will probably need a new chain also.

    I have also noticed a loud clicking sound when turning sometimes. The chains appear to be fairly tight, but the clicking sound still occurs when turning especially to the right.

    It sounds like a sprocket is possibly out of alignment? Take the floor pan out and drive around carefully and slowly while watching the chains to see which one is popping and go from there.
