I put an opposed twin 18 Briggs in a Max II a few years ago. other than having to cut the engine cover a little, there were no issues

I Recently replaced the TEC 16hp with a Briggs 18HP IC. Since the rear tub was already cut in mine I didn't have any issues with fit at all. I had to get a longer belt to provide the clearance for the engine and t-20. The Motor Mount was pretty simple, I just used 3/8 plate and welded it across the original mount. I used the metal blade on my Roto zip to cut some bolt slots in the new plate and Wa La... Mounted.

I am still working out a few details for the wiring and alternator mount but I did get to take it out this weekend for it's inaugural spin since doing the swap and ZOOOOOOm total difference. It was well worth doing the swap and if your looking at doing this one I would say go for it.
