As some of you know, I am a teacher. Last year the technical school that I work for asked for volunteers to teach a three day Summer Camp for 6-8 grade students. I had a 6x6 project that I wanted to do so I thought it would be fun to bring that to Summer Camp and teach the students how to put it together. The students as well as the parents loved it! The school was also very impressed with the project. So much so that they asked me to do it again this year. Well, I didn’t have a project to build but I didn’t want to disappoint the students so I spent the last two months searching down everything that I needed to build another one. Last year they built a first generation single cylinder. This year I decided that a trail machine with a 440 was in order. Here are some pics of the body and frame. I will post more as I get the rest together and ready to go. Like I said, the students are grades 6-8 and have never been around a 6x6; most have never been around tools or anything mechanical so there is a lot of preparation on my part before they start the project. I have to break everything down, clean, glass bead and paint everything. Then everything is bagged and marked so it is easy to figure out where everything goes. This year I went a little crazy and cleaned up the body and buffed it out. I couldn't buff the nose out so I blacked it out. I think it turned out pretty good. I also added new decals just for the fun of it. I have just a few more parts to get and then it will be ready for the students. I will post each night to show everyone the progress. The camp is June 12-14.
