I did it on a maxIV a couple years ago with springs I had laying around.......I wish I hadn't. The springs do make shifting easier than a stock set up, but it is still possible to have only one side engaged when you take off. Splitting the shifter is a far better way to go. One of these days I will have to tear mine back down and throw in that second lever and rod

Does that make it better to get in gear? i find it sometimes hard to get from neutral in to gear forward or backwards! find rocking helps lol!! but not good.
