    Question WAS wondering WHY ???

When I first looked at my 980 I noticed that the right air vent on the side was facing backwards. ( I thought some one put it on backwards ) Not like the 900 or 950 facing forward to bring in fresh or cool air "not that it does that much" but then I noticed that all the 980 are set up that way and was wondering if anyone knows why that is that way,and why???

I think the main reason for this is because it keeps debris from getting in the tub of the machine. I noticed when I was driving through a field with high grass with my 980, the vents facing backwards kept all of the seeds, sticks, leaves and other small debris from getting in the tub. I know what you mean how some of the earlier model 900 and 950 models had the vents facing forward.....this design was probably changed just for that reason. Also, I'm sure that powdery snow would easily gather in the tub with the vents facing forward.

You can flip them around if you want. My thoughts were that the early model husltlers came with two strokes and getting cool air to the engine compartment was paramount especially with the rear seat over the top of the engine.

Hi Texas. Not sure on Hustlers, but in the marine world, one side of the boat will have a vent facing forward, and the other side to the rear, helping vent the engine compartment. This is pretty standard. You stated Vent not "Vents" so do you have ONE facing forward? If so my guess is for intake and output. If it's just one vent or all facing back, then I'll agree it's probably to keep out weeds/debris.

    6x6 ,
nope only has the 1 vent on the 980 which is on the right side and has a metal screen (for leaves and sticks stuff covering the hole on the inside) But I do understand what you was getting at on the boats.Looks like JP knows the answer again. Funny after all the years they made Hustler they would change that at the end on the biggest one they made.
