ABS Repair?

anyone have a procedure for abs repair that works well? don shipped me some plastic, and i'm ready to drop the frame back into the attex but i need to fix the tub in several spots first. i put a bunch of plastic in a can of acetone last night so hopefully i have some plastic goo this morning. do you spread it like bondo, or just brush it on? there are a few holes in the right rear. should i put solid patches in them and then try to bond them in with the goo, or just fill them with the liquid plastic? what do you quys recomend for a crack. there are a few on the upper body that are cracked, but the halves are still very tight to each other... pry appart and fill? i really don't want to patch over them as the repair will be really thin and probably just crack again. thanks for the advice guys

When I've done my repairs I pretty much used the ABS in a goo form, a little runnier than toothpaste.

I've also done the patching method and that worked well. I let a piece of ABS soak in a pool of acetone just deep enough for one side to get wet. It needs to sit for about 1/2 an hour to soften up. It can get a little messy when you handle it too.

I've also covered the micro thin cracks just by spreading some plastic over it. It actually held for a few years but I guess it depends on where they are and body flex.

Clean the area you're going to fix with a rag dampened with acetone before you apply the ABS in either form.

I've found it takes a week or longer for the repaired areas to be as hard at the original ABS.

I've tried both methods George described they both work well, but it's not quick, like he says,it takes a while for it to set good and hard. But it seals very well.

no problem on the cure time... once the frame goes in i'm going to be at a standstill for a week. i have to order bearings and chain, but the boss said there isn't room in the budget this week... i wish she'd get her prioritys straight!

how long does the abs have to soak in the acetone? i put it in there last night and it still has a lot of chunks this morning. will it eventually get to be a smooth consistant paste, or will it always be a little lumpy?

It shouldnt be lumpy. It will even out. Try a little more acetone maybe.

If the chunks are too big it takes a long time to dissolve. How big are they?
