    help need more low end torque

    I have an argo magnum 8x8 with an 18hp kl. Engine I just modifed my plastic tracks and am having difficulty turnning I believe I need more torque. What should I do? Driver spring secondary spring some one help .thanks

    I would say secondary spring to the first hole, though scratchin my head as magnums are geared lower than most. Does it make any noise? Was there any problems before tracks?

    The magnum with the 18 hp kohler engine, if properly set up,should have plenty of torque to turn your tracks. It won't break any land speed records but that engine is renowned as a very torquey engine. argojim is correct about tightning the secondary, that would be a good start. Once you tighten the secondary, one hint that you may find makes a difference is to let the engine rev down slightly before starting your turn. That ensures you are in the lowest gear.

    what's the condition of your primary - if both clutches aren't working together 100% then you won't achieve your optimum torque levels. What about the condition of your belt, is it still riding sufficiently high above the clutch with the engine stopped?

    One more things come to mind:

    What's the condition of your engine mounts? It' amazing how much of an impact worn engine mounts can have on overall performance. The stock engine mount system used on those magnums left a lot to be desired. There are several ways to make a much better system.

    Were you having any trouble turning your tracks prior to the modifications? What kind mods did you make to your tracks?

    Ok I add rubber grouters to them it goes great but if I stop and just try to turn it won't it just rattles and boggs. But if I revit up and moving forwards and jurk the steering it will turn. I'm not worried about going fast. And how do I tighten the secondary?

    Cool mods on your super tracks. Should make a big difference.

    There are a number of good videos on you tube that show the process. Rd has a couple on here even I believe. Searching for clocking argo secondary clutch or clocking argo driven clutch will get you started. When disassembling, notice which hole the end of the spring is in and the idea is to tighten the spring (likely you'll want it in the first hole), this forces the cvt transmission into staying into a lower gear and downshifting faster. As you probably already know, turning from a dead stop is more difficult under most conditions, a little forward momentum helps a lot.

    Do you also hear the rattling when the machine is idling? if so could mean your primary is worn a little (or a lot). There normally should be no rattling if everything is tight with the clutches.
