    Kid 8x8 questions

Has anyone used a set of tracks on their kid that were different from the original kid tracks? By this I mean Argo or some other rubber track? I want to put tracks on my kids and I am not finding too many alternatives to the heavy original steel tracks.

Also, does anyone have any leads on a god Wisconsin engine rebuilder, or reman engines? I need to rebuild my motor and thought I would ask around. Has anyone put something different in a kid?

Looks like there are no more parts sellers for the Kid, any gasket suppliers for the gear box and others unique applications?

Thanks for any thoughts or help I might get. Bill

I considered a swap, but the engine mounts to a three gear box that drives the pumps, this gear box must mount up to the pump housings and the engine housing. What is the likelihood of me finding an engine that has the same bolt pattern as the Wisconsin VH4D? There was a Perkins diesel option for the kid, but I believe this set up also had a unique gear box. I suppose I could drive the pumps with chains or belts, but the pumps mount only to the engine gear box and are not supported any other way. Anyone out there ever performed a powertrain swap?

I rebuilt the VH4D in my KID. it had a busted piston so I put in 4 new ones.
I'd just rebuild what you have

I have the engine torn down and ready to go to the engine shop. Now to find some tracks. Bill

VH4D is at the shop. I am waiting to hear what parts I need to buy for them and they will get it done in a few weeks. Found some Argo Super Tracks here on 6x6 world and will pick them up later this month. I am going to see what of the Argo wheels and spacers I might be able to use on my kid. I suspect I will need welded steel spacers, but who knows maybe not. Has anyone tried to use Argo stuff on a Kid? Bill

    HI
Pistons and rings can be made to order easily
    Connecting Rods can be made
    Cam shaft can be repaired
Head gasket can be made by specialist
Typically other gaskets are made by a different company
Overhaul the fuel injector pump with injectors
Water pump maybe able to be overhauled

I have my engine back and am ready to buy some paint, plugs, oil filter, and gasket sheet stock. I will install it so that I can time the engine (cannot be timed with radiator in place unless you have a timing disc for pto shaft. Anyone have a timing disc or know where to get one?) Once I break in motor and time it I will fully assemble from radiator to pump lines and put it in the Kid. I picked up my used argo tracks, wheels and tires, and spacers. I am not sure yet, but it looks like it will all bolt onto the kid. I will lose 1 inch of tire height with the run amoks, but this should be ok. In fact the shorter height will help the tracks clear the body. I might also get new 23x10.5x12 ag tires and go with them for full time use. The 8.5 wide tires on it are to narrow for argo track use. I am thinking about adding the conveyor belt to the outside of the track with angle iron. Adair argo I think sells this kit. Looking forward to finally making some progress on this baby.

IMG_0621.jpgIMG_0622.jpgWell I broke in the newly rebuilt VH4D last weekend. Pulled it after timing and break in and assembled the rest of the driveline. Will change hydro filter tonight and add the 20 quarts of 10w-30 and she should be ready to go. Once I have the Kid fully checked out I will start on my Argo Supertracks installation. I found 23x10.5x12 Ag tires at TSC for 79.99 minus a ten percent discount for buying eight of them. I am undecided on whether to use the 22x10x8 runamoks mounted on Argo wheels, or change my 23x8x12 goodyears Ags for the larger Ags needed for the Argo tracks. It would be nice to pop off the tracks and have good Ag tires ready to go without having to change the wheels out. I am going to put a rubber or hard plastic wear strip on my plow and get ready for the snow that we all know is coming soon. More details and pictures soon I hope.
