Got a little more info, machine has forward and reverse shifter and then uses sticks to steer. Trail boss was made in Calgary or Edmontn AB. Canada in mid the 80s. The lady that is selling it has let me know that one of the original owners of the factory had come to see it and wants it, she said the guy commented that it has 1-7/8" shafts and in later years of production used the praire bobcat three speed(she was not sure though). The lady has let me have first chance at it, so I am trying to figure out what transmission is in it, almost sounds like an argo. I live seven hours away and want to be very sure before I make the trip. The motor is shot for sure, and by the time that gets replaced I do not want an obsolete tranny or try to replace/retrofitt something else, might as well buy something alot newer. The big advantange I see is the aluminum tub(including the design of tub) and it looks like it has lots of room for hauling cargo/people. I would appreciate any best geusses about what tranny it might have. Thanks, I am also trying to get the lady to get me more pictures, I will share if I get them.

Here are some pics, any guess on tranny, overall what do you think? Will this machine run tracks well? I am looking for a dedicated track machine.

I"m saying that if I had the $$ I would pick that up in a heartbeat regardless...that's a hell of a machine!

BTW those two pics of that swamp fox are nice with studded tyres. Now I'm thinking that I should stud the bear claws...hmmm...got a stud gun and 1000's of studs....Hmm....now need stud drill

Back to the machine...it's a solid looking beast..I'd get it for sure!

Looks like you could put any type of trans in there. From what I see in the pictures looks to be set up like a bull dozer with automotive style clutches for drive and external band brakes for steering. The trans almost looks like a common industrial gear box.
Also looks like it has the wrong belt on it.

The belt is very low in the secondary. The clutches are for steering, has full 8x8 drive, but I do not actually see and brakes to stop the rig other than engine holding it back

If you look outside the clutch you can (or I can ) make out a brake band, looking at the left side of pic 1 it is more noticeable. Surrounds entire disc (flywheel/rotor).

The trans appears to only act as a gear ratio reducer and reverser.

Thanks, now I have to decide If I actually want it. The seller has mentioned that the motor runs but sound like it is going to pile, everything else works good. What would you guys pay for this? I know the asking price but do not want to sway your opinions
